Second Encounter:
The Second Encounter will look identical to the First Encounter, but this
time, if possible pick a different place in the story to recall the target
words and pictures so that the children see and hear the words in multiple contexts within
the book.
- As a reminder, in the Second Encounter, like the first, you are reading the book, and when you come across a target word, stop, point to the picture of the target word, and say the word. Remind the children that it is one of their new words, and define the word for the children.
- Again, if the word appears multiple times in the story, it is key for you to just pick one place to recall the definition. For each encounter you should consider recalling the word in a different place when possible so the children can see and hear the word in multiple contexts.
