As you may already know, supporting and meeting the literacy needs of all children is one of the primary goals of the VPK program. We hope that you will find many of the strategies, tools, and ideas helpful in providing meaningful and effective language learning experiences for the young children in your classroom.
The Florida Department of Education has highlighted four instructional
strategies
to promote children’s
language development in your classroom. These strategies were chosen
with the mindset that they could be implemented into
any classroom regardless of the curriculum being used. The purpose of
these strategies is to supplement your daily classroom activities, in
order to provide a language-rich environment for your preschool children.
This folder is designed to help you integrate language and vocabulary into your daily lesson plans and classroom routines. By increasing children’s exposure to rich language and vocabulary, you are facilitating their language development and laying a foundation for future literacy development.
As a teacher in a VPK classroom, you can successfully create an environment that is culturally rich and supportive of a young child’s development. A primary goal of this folder is to help you create and maintain this type of learning environment.
