Now, Lisa demonstrates the strategy using the verb “leap.” Watch how Lisa shows a realistic visual of the word by demonstrating a leap. During the Show step, she makes sure that all of the children can see what she is doing. During the Tell step, Lisa defines the word “leap” for the children. Observe how she also prompts the children to repeat the label for the action. Finally, in the Talk step, Lisa contextualizes the word “leap” for the children by relating it to the word “jump” and playing a game of Simon Says.
All of these steps within the Think, Show, Tell, Talk strategy provide appropriate practice with new vocabulary words while avoiding the unintended teaching of incorrect labels for new objects.
