Each instructional strategy contains a sequence of four steps. These steps include:
- Introducing the Strategy – This step provides information about the specific instructional strategy and how it can be used in the classroom.
- Learning the Strategy – This step provides information about the new strategy and simple instructions for implementing the strategy into the classroom.
- Observing the Strategy – This step provides a video clip of a VPK teacher using the strategy with children in a VPK classroom.
- Using the Strategy – This step provides resources to facilitate the use of a particular strategy. Resources include web sites, book lists, videos and printable documents.
REMEMBER, you may enter and re-enter this folder as often as you wish. This feature allows you to access your favorite topics and revisit specific strategies as needed.
The four strategies are in no particular order and do not build on one another. Dialogic Reading and Book Embedded Vocabulary Instruction focus on children’s storybooks. Language Scaffolding and Think, Show, Tell, Talk are more conversational strategies. Feel free to explore the strategies in the order that is most comfortable for you.
