Welcome and Background Information

The Department of Education is responsible for setting standards, implementing the accountability system for Florida's Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Education Program, and providing VPK teachers with professional development and training opportunities. English Language Learners in the VPK Classroom is the third online training course that the Department of Education has produced.  It is based on the ideas and suggestions of many VPK teachers, directors, and owners, as well as other early childhood educators across the state.

The facilitator for this course is Elizabeth Bezos.  Elizabeth is owner/director of a VPK center in south Florida.  She has been a child advocate in all issues surrounding early care and education in Florida for many years.  She has a bachelor's degree in psychology and is currently working on a master's degree in education at the University of Miami.  Elizabeth has experience managing a VPK center and has great passion for English language learners. In the following video, Elizabeth welcomes you to the course and provides some background information.
