Florida Kindergarten Readiness Screener (FLKRS)
All children who attend kindergarten in public schools and those children who previously participated in VPK and attend kindergarten in nonpublic schools, will be administered the FLKRS within the first 30 days of each school year.
FLKRS is composed of a subset of the Early Childhood Observation System (ECHOS), an observational instrument, and two measures of the Florida Assessments in Intruction for Reading (FAIR), Letter Naming Fluency and Initial Sound Fluency.
FLKRS results are used to calculate kindergarten readiness rates at the public school, district, and state levels. A VPK Provider Readiness Rate, based on FLKRS results for those children who participated in VPK programs, both public and private, will be used to measure providers' satisfactory delivery of the VPK program.
Let’s watch a video segment with Martha Haynes, Ph.D., former Director of Accountability & Quality Assurance, DOE/OEL, as she explains the FLKRS. To begin the video, press the "play"
