Introduction
Welcome
to the second unit of the VPK Director Credential Course.
This unit is designed to help you establish a high quality
VPK education program by creating and sustaining an
effective learning environment. This unit will help you
gain knowledge of effective research-based prekindergarten
practices, understand the importance of integrating the
Florida VPK Education Standards into instructional practices
and explore how an ongoing assessment directs instructional
practices. It will also assist you in developing a successful
transition process for children as they move from your
VPK program to kindergarten.
Unit Objectives/Competencies
To establish a high quality VPK education program(s) by creating and sustaining an effective learning environment, VPK directors will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- know and apply effective prekindergarten research-based practices
- support the integration of the VPK standards into instructional practice
- review/assess curricula as related to the seven domains of the VPK standards
- implement an ongoing assessment of individual children that will direct the instructional practices of a VPK program
- prepare children for a successful transition to kindergarten.
