Curriculum Evaluation

One of your responsibilities as a director is to select curricula that meet the needs of the children in your program. There are many different kinds of curricula on the market today. How do you evaluate different curricula to determine the right one(s) for your program?

Remember that VPK curricula you choose must:

  • be developmentally appropriate
  • be designed to prepare children for early literacy
  • enhance the age-appropriate progress of children in attaining the VPK Education Standards
  • prepare children to be ready for kindergarten.

To become a VPK provider, you must certify to the Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI) that your curricula meet requirements by listing all developmentally appropriate curricula used for each VPK class, then indicate which of these address each domain of the VPK standards.

This information is required on form AWI-VPK 10 when certifying the curricula you will use meet the criteria above.

DOE provides a list of approved curricula for low performing VPK providers as required by Section 1002.67(2)(c), Florida Statutes. A summary of the review process and results can be found on the DOE Office of Early Learning's Curriculum page.
