Purpose and Expected Training Outcomes

This training is designed to complement your initial training on the new VPK standards. At the end of this training, you will better understand the purpose, focus and rationale VPK Booklet Coverfor the new standards and benchmarks for the areas of Language and Communication and Emergent Literacy. These materials will help you understand the critical, age-appropriate instructional and environmental strategies that will prepare all children to succeed in kindergarten. Specifically, the next 5 hours will illustrate key instructional strategies, daily schedule components, and environmental factors you should consider in planning for the teaching of these new standards and benchmarks. You, Florida’s VPK teachers and providers, are essential to the future of our children.

As you proceed through this course, you will learn about the research behind each of the language and emergent literacy standards and what you can do to promote children’s learning in these areas. This training is not designed to turn prekindergarten into a kindergarten class, but was developed to provide you with the information and knowledge needed to know what children need to know and be able to do to be ready for kindergarten.
