VPK Director Credential
The VPK legislation directed the DOE to create a VPK Director Credential. This online module is part of this new credential. The director of an approved VPK program must meet additional requirements, which include the completion of the following:
- an active DCF Director Credential—https://training01-dcf.myflorida.gov/dcf/cct/dircred.html
- the three-hour VPK Education Standards training
- the five-hour Emergent Literacy module
- the five-hour VPK Director Credential Course (this is the course that you are currently taking)
These requirements become effective January 1, 2007. VPK providers who have met the DCF Director Credential requirements by December 31, 2006 are not required to obtain the VPK Director Credential, although they are strongly encouraged to do so.
For more information, read the Technical Assistance Paper issued by DOE at http://www.fldoe.org/earlylearning
/pdf/direcendorstap6_12_06.pdf. Applicants interested in obtaining
or renewing their DCF Director Credential should download the
application from the DCF website at https://training01-dcf.myflorida.gov/dcf/cct/dircred.html.
After completing the application, attach all the required documentation
and send the packet to the address shown on the application.
For information on the DOE-approved training on the VPK Education Standards, please contact your local regional facilitator or visit DOE's website to view the Statewide Training Calendar at http://www.myfloridaeducation.com/

The DOE-approved course on emergent literacy is available as an online course accessed via the web at http://www.fldoe.org/earlylearning or http://www.myflorida.com/childcare. It also is available as an independent study packet, with both English and Spanish versions. To obtain an independent study packet you must contact your local regional facilitator. A facilitated (instructor-led) version of the course will be available in the spring of 2007. No matter which version of the course you take, the assessment must be taken online, and is available only in English.
Your progress in meeting the VPK director credential criteria is tracked on your DCF training transcript. The one exception is the VPK standards training. This training is not captured on the DCF database, so you will need to submit a copy of the certificate of completion with the application. You may check your transcript online at http://www.myflorida.com/childcare.
