Effective Prekindergarten Research-Based Practices
Introduction
VPK was designed to prepare children for kindergarten and build a strong foundation for their continued educational success. In addition, there is an expectation that the quality of programs will increase by incorporating high literacy standards, accountability, appropriate curricula, manageable class sizes, and qualified instructors. For more information about the VPK Education Program, review the AWI VPK brochures for providers and for parents at http://www.floridajobs.org/VPK/media.html.
Several states have implemented programs for their four-year-old children and many others are currently researching and developing programs. What does research tell us about quality programming and the elements that are needed to create a quality program for four-year-olds? In this unit you will review the national research, recognize characteristics unique to four-year-old children, and identify indicators of high quality programs. Now scroll down to review the objectives before beginning the learning activities.
