Reflecting on What You Have Learned in
Unit 3: Emergent Reading

We have talked about many important emergent reading skills prekindergarten children need to master before the end of the year to prepare them to succeed in kindergarten. We also discussed key instructional strategies you can include every day that will help children master these skills.

Before you move on to Unit 4, take a few minutes to reflect on these questions posed at the beginning of this unit.

• How do you motivate young children to want to learn to read?

• How do you encourage children to play with sounds in words?

• How do you expose your children to print?

• How do you help young children understand and think about the books you read to them?
