Second Encounter:

As Michelle reads the book for the second time, she has chosen a place to point to the picture and recall the definition. Notice how she finishes reading the sentence before she recalls the definition of the word.

Teacher: “Sleeping bag” is another one of our vocabulary words.

Student: You don’t have to sleep in a sleeping bag when you’re at camp.

Teacher: A “sleeping bag” is something that you sleep in…

Student: You can sleep in a tent.

Teacher: You can sleep in a tent, but when you go in a tent wouldn’t you like to have your sleeping bag?

Student: Yeah.

Teacher: It is something that you sleep in, especially when you go camping.

(Voiceover): She will not always use the same picture as she did during Pre-Teach as it will allow children to see and hear the word in a different context.
